yeah, i know everything i say on here about language sounds like common sense, like things that everyone knows already so why say them, etc. i just like putting what i think in text and fleshing out my understandings. this allows for futher revelation. that's mostly what i'm going to talk about on here. i'm thinking that this weblog is going to serve as a journal or collection of notes for what will become an article or possibly even a book---no one will want to read it (except maybe freshman comp students who don't know any better or insane grad students who trip across it in some archive of crap), but i will have a sense of accomplishment. i mean, these are ideas that i really believe in; this is my religion. i need a way to perform offices now that i don't have to spend all my time worshipping language in an institution. heh, a good parallel--my concept of language/linguistics should mirror my concept of religion, spirituality, or what have you: to merely approach an understanding of what a higher power could/would be, you must detach yourself from the institutionalized version(s) of it. you must be aware of and study these versions, but ultimately, a true understanding can only be achieved from the outside in.
